The book of Jonah chapter 1 and halfway through verse 5 starts with these words, “But Jonah had gone down into the lowest parts of the ship, had lain down, and was fast asleep. So the captain came to him, and said to him, ‘What do you mean, sleeper? Arise, call on your God; perhaps your God will consider us, so that we may not perish.’”
It’s astounding in this story how the one with a connection to God and the answer to a life-threatening moment chose to sleep instead of pray. It took the cry of the unsaved to finally wake him up, and to reconsider his calling.
Today, from the cries of the unborn, to the afflicted and those losing hope, the pleas of this hour are calling you and I to pray. It’s time for the church of Jesus Christ to rise up again and re-claim our God-appointed place in history.
It’s time to pray!
