Job chapter 3, beginning at verse 25: “For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, and what I dreaded has happened to me. I am not at ease, nor am I quiet. I have no rest, for trouble comes.”
Independence day-the fourth of July-is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in the year 1776, declaring the then-thirteen colonies a new nation: The United States of America-no longer part of the British Empire. We celebrate the escape from what we consider oppressive human government and rejoiced in the newfound freedom to worship and serve God as we chose to.
This year, we must ask ourselves a vital question: how close are we, as a people, to becoming ourselves what we once feared? Where are we heading? Only God can clearly answer this question. It is something that we, as a people, must ask.
It’s time to pray.
