Turning Back in the Day of Battle
/

Psalm 78, verse 9 says these words, “The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.”

You know, this verse presents an interesting picture: It’s a picture of a people who took the time to put on defensive armor, to take up weapons of offensive in their hands, then suddenly to decide to use neither. You have to wonder, was it just a game to them? Were they training to occupy their time while fighting a fictitious war in their mind? What a strange and odd sight they must have been to those who saw them!

I can’t help but wonder how heaven is writing about us. With all the seminars on spiritual warfare that we seem to have in our time, are they wondering where our prayer meetings are? Are they listening for voices crying out for the lost in the day of battle?

It’s time to pray.
