Just a Few Moments Ago

Malachi chapter 1, beginning at verse 11: “‘For My name shall be great among the nations,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘But you profane it, in that you say “The table of the Lord is defiled, and its fruit, its food is contemptible.” You also say, “Oh, what a weariness!”‘”

Just a few moments ago, at a very short distance from where I am writing this, another knife- wielding man was shot dead in our streets here in New York City. One can’t help but wonder: “What kind of madness is gripping our society?”

Hopelessness is turning daily now to violence. Why did we, as a society embrace the idea that the rejection of God was a good idea? Where are the fools who decided that sin would be good for the nation? Most likely, they are counting their fortunes, attending their parties, and rejoicing in their self-defined brilliance. For sure, they are not covering the body or going to his family to bring the sad news.

It’s time to pray.

As terrible as the situation is today and as hard it is to grasp, contemplate how evil and encompassing the world will become. Especially if this is only the beginning of the birthing pains.
