Listen to the words of Jesus in Matthew chapter 25, verses 1 to 3: “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them.”
In these verses, Jesus is speaking of the hour just before His return. Some people, it’s assumed, were in charge, though they had cultivated no real relationship with God. As the days grew darker, they had less and less inner resource to believe in the faithfulness of God’s promises to them. As they grope in the dark, somebody among them probably shouted, “I wish we had prayed.” Yes my dear friends, they most certainly wish they had prayed.
It’s time to pray.
