Psalm 71, beginning at verse nine, “Do not cast me off in the time of old age; do not forsake me when my strength fails. For my enemies speak against me; and those who lie in wait for my life take counsel together, they say, ‘God has forsaken him; Pursue and take him, for there is none to deliver him.'”
Now I believe these words describe the cry and collected heart of the nation of America herself. With our history forgotten, godliness mocked, virtue vilified, her enemies now declare victory, feeling that there’s no one left to defend her. But they’re wrong. The God who was with her in her earliest of days is still waiting to answer her cry. “O God, do not be far from me; O my God, make haste to help me!”
It’s time to pray.
