Katharine Lee Bates, in the final verse of her song, “America The Beautiful” penned these words: “Oh Beautiful for patriot dream that sees beyond the years, thine alabaster cities gleam, undimmed by human tears! America! America! God shed His grace on thee. Till nobler men keep once again thy whiter jubilee.”
If you can see it, this song that became our song finishes with a prayer. It’s a prayer that says this: That if our cities become tarnished, that once again a nobler people will arise to bring back the presence and the blessing of God. That’s why its says in 2 Chronicles, “If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will answer their prayer, forgive their sins, and heal their nation.”
It’s time to pray.
